Adat Shalom, a Reconstructionist congregation in Bethesda, Maryland, is looking for teachers for our religious school next year (starting September 7th) for our kindergarten through 5th grade program. Beth El Congregation’s Berman-Lipavsky Religious School is seeking dynamic educators to teach engaging Judaic Studies and Hebrew lessons for our students in kindergarten through 7th grade.

Paralegal with the Jewish Service Corps

Last call for applications for the 2024-2025 Avodah Jewish Service Corps, an immersive service year program running September 2024 – August 2025 for emerging changemakers ages 21-26. Spend a year serving full-time at Amica Center for Immigrant Rights in DC while living and learning in a justice-oriented Jewish community. Paralegal at Amica Center for Immigrant Rights: The Amica Center for Immigrant Rights strives to ensure equal justice for all immigrant adults and children at risk of detention and deportation in the Capital region area and beyond through direct legal representation, know your rights presentations, impact litigation, advocacy, and the enlistment and training of attorneys to defend immigrants. The Paralegal in the Detained Adult Program will focus on the coordination and execution of visits to detention centers for the purpose of conducting know your rights presentations and intakes with detained adults, working with clients throughout the course of removal proceedings, including assisting with paperwork and case preparation, and supporting the program’s provision of services as a whole. Spanish fluency is highly recommended.

As a member of the Jewish Service Corps, you’ll:
Create lasting Jewish community. Home-cooked Shabbat dinners, late night conversations, and holiday celebrations make living in the bayit (communal home) memorable and meaningful. Corps Members co-create intentional, pluralistic communities that help them vision and embody how the world could be.
Launch your career in social justice. After matching with a placement organization,, you’ll contribute meaningfully to on-the-ground efforts on crucial justice issues such as immigration, housing insecurity, education, healthcare, the criminal legal system, and more. Gain a year of hands-on experience with a supportive community by your side.
Dive into deep learning. Through experiential programming, you’ll explore different visions for movements for justice, the role of community in creating a more just world, and how you want to show up as a Jew in justice work. Our dynamic curriculum will deepen and contextualize your day-to-day work, while supporting you in finding your place in broader justice movements. Jews of Color (JOCs) can also participate in JOC-specific programming and community building.
Have your basic needs met. Avodah takes care of the most important things. Corps Members receive furnished housing, a monthly living stipend, health insurance, an exit stipend, and a travel allowance. Corps Members can also tap into the economic access fund to support unmet financial needs.

Twice/Month Saturday Morning Religious School Teaching Opportunity

We are searching for talented educators who can help inspire our students to connect to Judaism and relate Jewish values to our students’ lives. Our students meet twice/month on Saturday mornings, and our teachers have the opportunity to help with family education programs each month, as well.

Qualifications:
Experience teaching or working with children between the ages of 6-16
Ability to work well with others and communicate effectively with families and children
Interest and knowledge of Jewish values, traditions, and hands-on learning

Judaics Teacher Position – Saturday Mornings (In-Person)
BJC Religious School provides a values-based curriculum for children K-7th grade. We meet in person two times a month on Saturday mornings from 9:30 am to 11:30 am (with adjustments for holidays and school breaks). In addition, we have a Family Education program that meets once a month, generally on either Friday evenings or Saturdays. Teachers will receive the school calendar before the start of the year. BJC provides values-based curricula and teachers are encouraged to adapt them to fit their teaching style and needs.

Salary is between $20 – $60 an hour and is commensurate with experience.

Teach religious school at Ohr Kodesh

Our K-7 religious school meets Sundays 9:00 am – 12:00 pm and Wednesdays 4:15-6:15 pm. Rates begin at $36/hour and are commensurate with experience. Training and support are available to candidates of all experience levels. We are looking for teachers for various grades for the 2024-25 school year, which starts 9/8/24.

We encourage students to delve deeply into important topics, to become critical thinkers and active participants within their Jewish journeys. Hebrew instruction and regular tefillah give students the tools to lead services and gain competency in text study and prayer.

Ohr Kodesh is a Conservative synagogue, just outside of Washington DC, facing East/West Hwy. Local bus service provides direct access to Silver Spring, Friendship Heights, Bethesda, and Wheaton Metro stations. We can provide transportation subsidies to qualifying student teachers.

What You’ll Do

Support student-initiated programs and serve as a Jewish resource to students and student groups
Recruit and Teach Jewish Learning Fellowships.
Help craft and implement the annual cycle of Jewish holidays and Shabbat programming.
Provide Jewish students of diverse backgrounds and identities with a sense of belonging to the larger Jewish community on campus
Meet with students from different cohorts and demographics on campus to engage them, identify their interests and connect to opportunities.
Meet with students to help connect them with leadership roles in Hillel.
Work closely with the Director of Engagement to develop and execute a general strategy for programming and engagement.
Support recruitment for events, special programs and trips, including Birthright Israel, MTF and Alternative Spring Break.
Cultivate one-on-one relationships with Jewish students by meeting them where they live, work, study, and/or socialize.
Please note: Due to the nature of Jewish student life at Hopkins, during the semesters this position will require several nights/weekends, including for Shabbat and holidays.
