FreshFest is Maryland Hillel’s premier orientation program for new Jewish students at the University of Maryland. Taking place just before regular move-in begins in August, FreshFest offers the perfect opportunity to connect with fellow Jewish students, get acquainted with campus life, and explore local highlights.

Tuesday, August 26th

FreshFest kicks off as students move into their dorms in the morning and start meeting new friends through fun icebreakers, while parents explore the now under construction new Rosenbloom Hillel Center (RHC) on a guided tour and info session back at the current building. As the day winds down, students come together for a lively welcome dinner followed by an ice cream social, while parents can enjoy to-go meals or an optional kosher dinner and a special dessert session with Executive Director Ari Israel.

Wednesday, August 27th

Get ready for a day of adventure in Washington D.C.! Students connect with even more peers while choosing from an exciting lineup of curated experiences across the city. The night ends with laughter and competition during our Game Show Night at the Stamp Student Union.

Thursday, August 28th

Students dive into “Welcome Tracks,” discovering all the amazing ways to plug into Jewish life at Maryland. Whether you’re into leadership, learning, community service, or just want to find your people—there’s something for everyone.

Friday, August 29th

The week wraps up with a joyful celebration of Shabbat at Hillel. Students gather on campus for a short “happy hour” and walk together down to the Hillel building for a warm, welcoming evening and a festive Shabbat dinner that brings the whole community together.
