Religious School Teachers 2023-24
Shaare Tefila, a Conservative synagogue located in Olney, MD (Greater DC area) is looking for creative, passionate teachers. Our ideal candidate will have experience working with youth either in or out of the classroom, knowledge of the traditions and values of Conservative Judaism, and enthusiasm for making a difference in the lives of Jewish children. Our program meets from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 on Sundays during the school year. Staff hours end at 12:30 and will include a variety of activities over the weeks, including professional development, team building and lesson planning time, eliminating off hours preparation during the week.

True for children and adults alike, it is through experiential learning, learning in immersive settings, and quality relationships that we strive to provide engaging and meaningful Jewish education in the programs of Shaare Tefila. Using a set of core Jewish values as its foundation, our program strives to impart religious character, ethical awareness, and a love of Judaism.

Responsibilities:
Teachers will create and execute engaging lessons, track student progress, communicate with parents and staff, and submit all administrative requirements in a timely manner.
Utilize the methods of experiential education to engage students both in and outside of the classroom.
Support students in forming their own Jewish identities and exploring aspects of Judaism.
Foster a warm and supportive learning community in the class setting.
Participate in staff meetings and professional development.

Qualifications and Desired Skills:
Experience teaching or working with children and/or teens.
Familiarity with Jewish traditions, holidays and t’filah.
Proficiency in reading and writing basic Hebrew.
Familiarity and comfort with Zoom for video conferencing/teaching virtually if needed.
Must be comfortable with other virtual programs including but not limited to: Google Docs, Email, Slides, etc.
