ApiChorus
We are ApiChorus, Harvard’s Premier Jewish A Cappella Group and an affiliated student organization of Harvard Hillel. Founded in 2023, ApiChorus is a coed group comprised of current undergraduate students at Harvard College. We sing a diverse repertoire of Hebrew and English classics, represent a broad range of Jewish backgrounds, and perform at venues locally in Cambridge as well as in concerts around the area.
Kol Sasson
Founded in 1997 as the University of Maryland’s premier Jewish a cappella group, Kol Sasson has been serving the national Jewish community with song for over twenty-five years. Comprised of students from all backgrounds, studies, and cities around the country, the members of Kol Sasson come together to perform a repertoire ranging from English and Israeli pop to traditional Jewish melodies, and more.
Magevet
Founded in 1993, Magevet is one of the nation’s premiere Jewish a cappella singing groups. A coed ensemble composed of undergraduate students at Yale University, Magevet is known for its sweet blend of voices, unique arrangements, and lighthearted sense of humor. The group’s diverse repertoire spans modern Israeli pop and Renaissance choral pieces to Yiddish folk tunes and Zionist classics. The members of Magevet are equally diverse: engineers and historians, Jews and Gentiles, New Yorkers and Californians, all united by camaraderie and a love of singing. Magevet is devoted to spreading Jewish music to the far corners of the globe and embarks on concert tours each year, in addition to regular performances throughout the Northeast. Our tours have recently been bringing us all around the world, from San Francisco in 2023 to Sydney and Melbourne, Australia in 2024! Magevet is, incidentally, the Hebrew word for “towel.” Our founding members are in near-complete disagreement about what inspired them to choose such an unusual name for an a cappella group, though many of their accounts involve a sauna.
Manginah
Founded in 1994, Manginah is Brandeis University’s premier Jewish a cappella group. Partnered with Hillel, Manginah sings a mixture of Jewish, Israeli pop, and English songs. Our mission is to share our love of Jewish music with Jewish communities across the greater Boston and New England area.
Rak Shalom
Rak Shalom, founded in 2005 at the University of Maryland, is one of the most dynamic groups in Jewish A Cappella. Determined to bring excitement and quality to our performances, we travel across the country and sing for both public and private audiences in a wide variety of venues and locations. Rak Shalom has a truly unique and diverse repertoire, which spans from American and Israeli pop to traditional Jewish melodies. We share our passion for music through captivating and intricate arrangements, and our engaging performances leave our audiences wanting more!
Shir Appeal
Founded in 1995, Shir Appeal is Tufts’ only mixed-gender Jewish a cappella group (believe it or not)! We blend diverse musical styles, performing everything from English songs with Jewish themes to Hebrew pop/rock, liturgical pieces, and world music in a variety of languages. Shir Appeal performs at synagogues, Jewish day schools, retirement homes, and recently traveled to Philadelphia for our Winter Tour! Shir Appeal is honored to be the first Jewish and non-secular group featured on the acclaimed Voices Only and Best of Collegiate A Cappella (BOCA) albums, as well as every Best of Jewish A Cappella (BOJAC) album to date. Check out our new album, Skylight, available on all streaming platforms!
