Maryland Hillel Sponsorship

Each year Maryland Hillel holds a new student orientation for incoming Jewish Terps. We have about 300 new students join us each year for bonding activities, a trip to DC, Family BBQ, and other great activities to get them ready for college at UMD! You can find more information by clicking here!

TNT is a weekly event hosted by Kedma, our Orthodox student group at Maryland. Each Tuesday, with the help of a sponsor, Hillel provides Pizza and room space for this learning opportunity to take place.

Maryland Hillel's annual Opening BBQ welcomes students, staff, and faculty back to campus with a BBQ, Rita's Italian Ice, and an array of Jewish Organizations tabling and welcoming students to join them. The VIP Reception is put on for faculty members, donors, and community members to have an exclusive meet and greet with President Pines and faculty to discuss our hopes for the new school year.

Each week, with the help of sponsors, Maryland Hillel picks a spot on campus to offer students bagels on their way to class. The cost of one Bagel Break is about $50, which includes the cost of cream cheese, bagels, and utensils for approx. 20-25 students.

Shabbat 1,000 is one of Maryland Hillel's signature annual events, bringing together 1,000 Jewish students for an unforgettable Friday night of community and celebration. This vibrant gathering offers a unique opportunity to unite in the spirit of Shabbat, fostering connections and creating lasting memories.

Shabbat Across Campus (Shabbam) is an annual event where Maryland Hillel empowers students to host Shabbat meals in their apartments, dorms, or homes. Hillel provides each host with challah, grape juice, and candles, ensuring a meaningful Shabbat experience. Hosts can choose to have their meal catered by Hillel or prepare their own, supported by a stipend. The costs listed below reflect the total expense of providing these essential items for every meal.

Israel Week is a major highlight of the year, celebrating Israel’s independence with educational panels, cultural workshops, and political activism. The event culminates in Israel Fest, a campus exhibition showcasing Israel’s rich culture. In 2023, Israel Fest engaged over 80 volunteers, 15 Jewish clubs, and drew more than 1,000 students, earning positive media coverage and broad support. To continue hosting impactful events like this, we depend on the generosity of donors like you. Your contribution, no matter the size, helps us educate and unify the Zionist community on campus.

Every Friday night during the academic year, Maryland Hillel invites all students to join us for a FREE Shabbat dinner. Each meal costs approximately $18, and we typically host around 100 students each week.

Our security expenses fluctuate annually, but they have recently become a more significant and essential part of our budget. Hiring an officer for one hour costs Maryland Hillel $100, so a 5-hour event incurs a $500 security expense.
