Home > Part-Time Religious School Teacher @ Washington Hebrew Congregation
Washington Hebrew Congregation is a large Reform synagogue with two Religious School campuses – one in Northwest DC and the other in Potomac, MD. With nearly 500 students, we are looking for enthusiastic teachers for the 2025-2026 school year. Our school culture is one of inclusion; we strive to be a welcoming, nurturing environment where students can thrive based on their abilities. Our aim is to foster a strong sense of Jewish identity as our students in all grades explore what Judaism means to them. Our ideal teachers are passionate and compassionate. They strive to create a strong sense of community in their classroom(s) by engaging students in meaningful ways and inspiring a sense of wonder. We look for teachers who can lead by example, demonstrating the power and magic of living a Jewish life.
Our school runs on Sunday mornings from 9:30am-12noon at both campuses – faculty need to arrive by 9:15am for a brief faculty meeting. Hebrew is taught to 4th through 6th graders on Tuesday afternoons in Potomac and Wednesday afternoons in DC, from 4:30-6:00pm. We’d love to hire mid-week teachers as well!
If you love working with children and want to have an impact on the next generation of Jewish people, please be in touch! To apply or learn more, please email Stephanie Tankel: STankel@whctemple.org – let us know what you’re interested in doing/teaching, and why you think this might be the right fit for you!
We’re looking, in particular, for the following skills: • Song-leader (in Potomac) • Hebrew teachers (liturgical – decoding letters/vowels) • Judaic Studies or Jewish elective teachers (a great place to get creative!)
If you are interested in any of the above categories or positions, please contact us (STankel@whctempl.eorg) for more information! We love hiring UMD students and can’t wait to hopefully hear from you! We pay between $22-30/hours depending on the role and your experience!
Washington Hebrew offers professional development for teachers and we place a major emphasis on creating a supportive and warm environment for all of our staff (as well as our members/families)! Apply today – let’s talk! Email STankel@whctemple.org
