Religious School Teachers 2023-24 Shaare Tefila, a Conservative synagogue located in Olney, MD (Greater DC area) is looking for creative, passionate teachers. Our ideal candidate will have experience working with youth either in or out of the classroom, knowledge of the traditions and values of Conservative Judaism, and enthusiasm for making a difference in the lives of Jewish children. Our program meets from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 on Sundays during the school year. Staff hours end at 12:30 and will include a variety of activities over the weeks, including professional development, team building and lesson planning time, eliminating off hours preparation during the week.

True for children and adults alike, it is through experiential learning, learning in immersive settings, and quality relationships that we strive to provide engaging and meaningful Jewish education in the programs of Shaare Tefila. Using a set of core Jewish values as its foundation, our program strives to impart religious character, ethical awareness, and a love of Judaism.
Responsibilities: Teachers will create and execute engaging lessons, track student progress, communicate with parents and staff, and submit all administrative requirements in a timely manner. Utilize the methods of experiential education to engage students both in and outside of the classroom. Support students in forming their own Jewish identities and exploring aspects of Judaism. Foster a warm and supportive learning community in the class setting. Participate in staff meetings and professional development.
Qualifications and Desired Skills: Experience teaching or working with children and/or teens. Familiarity with Jewish traditions, holidays and t’filah. Proficiency in reading and writing basic Hebrew. Familiarity and comfort with Zoom for video conferencing/teaching virtually if needed. Must be comfortable with other virtual programs including but not limited to: Google Docs, Email, Slides, etc.

Shaare Torah is a welcoming, vibrant Conservative synagogue community in Gaithersburg, Maryland, dedicated to the ideals of Jewish tradition (Masoret), and to acts of kindness (Hesed). Our congregation includes more than 300 member households, as well as hundreds of other individuals and families living throughout Montgomery County, Maryland.
Shaare Torah is currently looking to add to our collaborative team of dedicated teachers. Ideal candidates will have some teaching experience although not necessary, preferably in a Jewish educational setting, enthusiasm for working with children, passion, and a demonstrated commitment to Judaism. Candidates should be comfortable with project-based learning and other hands-on modalities to meet the needs of our diverse learners.
Our program meets on Sunday mornings 9:00-12:00 PM and mid-week afternoons (online on Tuesdays and in-person on Wednesdays). We have many teaching options available regarding days and times!
We also have an opening for a teen class teacher (8th-10th grade) that will meet twice a month for 1.5 hours each.

Applicants should also have the following: Excellent interpersonal, organizational, technological, and communication skills. An understanding of central themes in Jewish education such as holidays, lifecycle and texts, Torah, Hebrew, etc. The ability to create and implement hands-on, interactive, and engaging lesson plans and teach with enthusiasm. Ability to attend occasional community-building Shabbat dinners and holiday programs during the year as needed. Be comfortable with switching to online/hybrid learning as needed. Must own a personal computer with access to Zoom. Must be available for in-person professional development sessions on two Sundays in August/September.

Our K-7 religious school meets Sundays 9:00AM-12:00PM and Wednesdays 4:15PM-6:15PM. At this time, we are primarily looking for a middle school instructor for Sunday mornings. We encourage students to delve deeply into important topics, to become critical thinkers and active participants within their own Jewish journeys. Hebrew instruction and regular tefillah give students the tools to lead services and gain competency in text study and prayer.

WHO YOU ARE The GatherDC Education Intern will report directly to GatherDC’s Community Rabbi and will support GatherDC’s IRL and online educational experiences this summer. As a member of our Engagement Team, you will immerse yourself in Gather’s relational engagement methodology and educational vision and work closely with GatherDC’s Community Rabbi bringing several signature immersive GatherDC experiences to life, deepen existing and novel educational offerings through curriculum co-creating and workshopping, and bringing your perspective and unique voice to Gather’s educational offerings and vision as we continue articulating what it means to host, create, and expand relevant, active, and meaningful Jewish experiences.
WHAT YOU’LL DO Support the GatherDC Community Rabbi and Engagement Team in executing several signature GatherDC immersive experiences, including the Beyond the Tent retreat in June and preparing for GatherDC’s High Holiday offerings this fall. Assist in developing new content and co-creating/deepening curricula for Gather High Holidays including our signature Alternative Yom Kippur and High Holiday Deep Dives (with opportunity to facilitate pending autumn availability and experience). Aggregate and analyze post-experience participant feedback and implement transformations for future educational Gather experiences. Work with the communications team to explore and support regular education-focused online content. Assist with research, codification, and ongoing implementation of Gather’s Relevant, Active, and Meaningful (RAM) education methodology in partnership with GatherDC Community Rabbi. Update blog content and write blog posts about your internship experience. Other duties as assigned by the GatherDC Community Rabbi. Note: This is not a rabbinical internship! We are seeking candidates who are interested in a career in Jewish education, Jewish non-profits, and/or spiritually-oriented work, and encourage candidates who are just starting to explore a potential career path in these areas to apply.
