Har Tzeon-Agudath Achim, a warm and friendly traditional synagogue in Silver Spring, Maryland is looking for a Shabbat School Teacher. A small class of elementary school children will meet during Shabbat Services for two hours. This position has a potential to grow with the goal of development and expansion of a formal Jewish education program and student participation.
Salary is $40-$55/hour depending on qualifications and experience.
Qualifications include: Ability to manage an elementary/middle school classroom of mixed ages, grades K-6. Ability to design and implement a Shabbat school curriculum for children not enrolled in Jewish Day school, including prayer, torah (parsha and mitzvot), holidays. Proficiency and Ability to teach Jewish prayer, practices, beliefs, holidays, lifecycle events, symbols, and rituals. Ability to incorporate stories from the Torah and the weekly parsha, and the practice of key mitzvot into weekly Shabbat lessons. Ability to develop children’s proficiency in singing, and memorization and basic understanding of key prayers, e.g. torah service, Barchu, Sh’ma, Amida, Mi Chamocha, Oseh Shalom, Aleinu, Adon Olam.
