Full Time Youth Director at Congregation Agudath Sholom Congregation Agudath Sholom (CAS) seeks a youth director to work with our rabbi and lay leaders to create outstanding educational programming for our youth (toddlers through teenagers). CAS is an engaging, inclusive modern Orthodox synagogue of over 550 families and has seen steady membership growth of young families, drawn to its message of openness and engagement. The community is warm, welcoming, and excited about our future.
Role Overview: Young family membership at CAS has increased by 25% over the last 5 years. The shul is seeking a full-time Youth Director who is eager to build relationships with new and existing families, engage children of all ages, and provide meaningful social and educational programming on Shabbat, holidays, and weekdays. The Youth Director will need to be engaging to youth and young families, organized, and energized by our growing shul.
Mission: The CAS Youth Department’s mission is to provide meaningful activities for infants through teens that infuse core Torah values, a love for Israel, and a sense of menschlichkeit into the lives of CAS youth.
Role Responsibilities: General Objectives ● Serve as a positive role model for CAS Youth ● Provide programs of Jewish significance and meaning for CAS Youth ● Instill pride and love in Judaism, Israel and CAS among CAS youth and direct reports Shabbat and Holiday programming ● Develop, manage and implement all Shabbat/Holiday curricula and programming and oversee Shabbat morning youth experience ○ The youth director will coordinate and oversee Shabbat morning groups for children in the shul from toddler Tot Shabbat to Teen Minyan. ○ Hire, train, and mentor all Shabbat Youth Group leaders to effectively implement programming in groups, and supervise group leaders ○ Oversee and implement logistical elements of programming, such as ordering food, supplies, etc. ● Excite and engage B’nei Mitzvah Club and teens and coordinate programming to meaningfully engage this group ● Train, support, and empower the youth leaders running each age group ● Presence at Shabbat morning groups and youth programs throughout the year is necessary ● Organize and supervise High Holiday youth programming
Weekday programming ● Lead youth committee of lay volunteers to plan and execute youth programming outside of Shabbat and holidays ● Create weekday/Sunday programming to ensure there is quarterly programming that includes toddlers through teens ● Plan programming surrounding holidays, including: pre-Holidays, Sukkot Chol Hamoed, Chanukah, Purim Carnival and Seudah, Pesach fair, Yom Haatzmaut ● Partner with Bnei Akiva staff
Community outreach and programming ● Engage with families and youth through events, attending community programming, involvement in Bnei Mitzvah programming, and occasionally hosting Shabbat meals ● Create and send weekly youth email/newsletter ● Ongoing connecting with our youth; check-ins ● Create and Implement Israel Academy and ASK (CAS Hebrew School program) in partnership with the Senior Rabbi
Administrative responsibilities ● Manage youth budget and tracking ● Manage youth leader payroll and communication with the CAS controller ● Manage the events calendar, including creating fliers and leading PR for all shul youth events ● Timely written and oral Communication with youth, parents, leaders, Youth Chair and Rabbis
Skills and qualifications: ● Strong written and verbal communication ● Strong organizational and time-mangement skills ● A self starter and self sufficient ● Relationship building with kids and adults ● Develops relationships with synagogue youth and their families and plays a key role in helping to foster a warm, welcoming environment for a diverse synagogue community ● Experience working with youth ranging from toddlers to teens and excitement to be working across all ages ● Experience working on multiple projects and workstreams simultaneously ● Background experience in Jewish education and curriculum development a plus
