Sigd- An Ethiopian Israeli Holiday!

Taliaferro Hall 1126

November 14, 2025

1:00 pm — 2:00 pm

Join Us for a Celebration of Sigd (Hebrew: סיגד‎)!

The Ethiopian Jewish holiday celebrated on the 29th of Cheshvan, fifty days after Yom Kippur. Recognized since 2008 as a national holiday in Israel, Sigd is a time of renewal, reflection, and unity. Our guest speaker, Yonatan Eyov, will share his personal insights and stories about the history and meaning of Sigd, life in Ethiopia and how the holiday was celebrated there, and the experiences of the Ethiopian Jewish community in Israel today. Come join us for an open and inspiring conversation as we celebrate the rich traditions, culture, and strength of the Beta Israel community, with traditional Ethiopian food and lively dancing. Together, we’ll reflect on heritage, belonging, and the importance of visibility and understanding within Israeli society.
